On a downright chilly morning that really ought to stir the blood, mine refuses to move. Three of six cats have joined me for an after-breakfast nap in the guest room, when an after-breakfast stroll would have been a much better choice. I missed morning prayer over at the church after having awakened in plenty of time to get there and then falling back to sleep, and I had been looking forward to going. I told myself something vague and soothing about needing to rest up after my Texas trip, but that was not actually true: the trip was easy and the people delightful. There's nothing to rest up from. Then I try resting up for my trip into the city this afternoon, but that's not true, either: there's nothing particularly taxing about getting on a train and letting it take you somewhere. So I don't really have anything to rest up for, either.
Maybe I'm not really resting up at all. Maybe I'm resting down.
I remember my energy level years ago, the things I did, one after another after another. How I never even thought of napping in the daytime -- I recall thinking that I was constitutionally unable to sleep except at night. I could stay up all night and work, if I had to. Work all day and then direct a play all evening. Where has all that power gone?
Well, nowhere. It's still right here in the universe where it's always been. Energy doesn't really go anywhere -- it just takes different forms and finds different stations -- it was mine for a while, but it belongs to others now, other amazing young people who can and do move mountains every day. We all have a season with it, and it's not forever.

Enjoy Yourself, It's Later Than You Think
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself,
It's later than you think
It's good to be wise when you're young
'Cos you can only be young but the once
Enjoy yourself and have lots of fun
So glad and live life longer than you've ever done
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself,
It's later than you think
Never right, yes I know
Get wisdom, knowledge and understanding
These three, were given free by the maker
Go to school, learn the rules, don't be no faker
It's not wise for you to be a foot stool
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself,
It's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself,
It's later than you think
